My Approach

Quality Care With the Time and Attention That You Deserve

When you need help with your emotional health, I believe that an individualized approach with careful attention to your goals and sense of purpose is very important. We are all on our own path, and feeling anxious or depressed can be the first sign that a course correction is needed. While it might seem counterintuitive, these states of mind offer incredible opportunities for personal development, and I see myself as a helpful companion for you as you go through that process of change. I can promise you that I will be very real and authentic with you, which will help you to bring out your own authentic self. My main goal is to help you learn more about who you are, which ultimately helps you to grow as a person.

Beginning Treatment

The decision to see a psychiatrist is a tough one, and I understand that it can seem a bit daunting at first. In your initial session with me, we'll talk about what's going on in your life in a relaxed and open-ended way. We will work together to clarify what your goals are, and how therapy and/or medication might help you to reach those goals. This session lasts two hours, which allows us to make well-informed decisions about your care.

Treatment Focus

I work with patients seeking help with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and ADHD. I also work with patients on strategies for success in academics, athletic activities, and business pursuits. My aim is to help you grow from your experiences, which often times puts you in a better spot than if you had never struggled at all. As they say, success isn't a straight line up.

Treatment Methods

I am a board-certified psychiatrist, which means that I have the ability to prescribe you medication when indicated. My philosophy is that medication should only be used when absolutely indicated, and only as one component of a broader treatment plan. Studies have shown that medications are effective for managing many symptoms, such as low energy, difficulty concentrating, or difficulty sleeping. I also work with patients using several therapeutic methods, including insight-oriented therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

I also send you visit summaries after each of your appointments with comments on what we discussed, suggestions for further reading, and links to videos that help to clarify certain concepts. I find that this helps to distill the essence of each session into something you can reference at any time, no matter where you are. Patients often comment that this is a highly beneficial aspect of their treatment.

Results

While I can never guarantee any particular treatment outcome, I have had significant success working with people in all sorts of situations. I find that a common-sense approach with a focus on your values, goals, and purpose in this world can lead to a transformation in your thinking. I have worked with many people who have had complete resolution of their symptoms of anxiety, depression, and more -- and many of them did not need any medication at all.

Patients tell me that my approach is "different" and "a breath of fresh air", as well as "intense". My goal is to provide high-quality treatment with solid results that are obvious to both you and the people closest to you.
